As long as you keep the Range app running in the background, it will continue recording the temperature and will send alerts when your food is ready. You'll know it's working if you see the red bar at the top of your screen.
You don't need to keep the Range app open in order to get remote alerts.
If you leave the Range app open, your screen will stay on. When Range is running in the background, the screen will turn off as usual.
